Kyle RathjenCreative Director
Hello, my name is Kyle Rathjen and welcome to my portfolio site.
I am a Graphic Designer, Photographer and Web Designer with over 12 years experience. During those 12 years, I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing people and their companies. My time spent at each one has been a great learning experience on my adventure through design. I have learned many mediums, programs and software to accomplish just about any kind of visual project that has been tasked to me. Wether that's designing a logo, brochure, website, branding, catalog, flyers, print, digital, mobile, emails, photography, editing, videography, to even some 3D. I do have my own style that I choose to use on my own fun-side projects but I am a very versatile designer that can switch styles to whichever look & feel you are going for.
I learned early on in my career that I wanted to be able to offer more than just being a one trick pony. I've spent countless hours, before and after the work day, progressing my skills and knowledge throughout all of the different possible design programs, mediums and equipment so that I can be proficient in just about everything (not quite there yet, but I'm trying). There are many times where I'm up late either finishing a work project, so it's done early, or creating a fun side project for myself just to have a little creative fun. Through my enjoyment of design, I have developed a level of discipline, work ethic and accountability that is not easily matched.
For my first 10 years of being in the design world, I was an in-house designer/photographer. I was always skeptical about freelance, I just never saw the stability in it. Having a family with a wife and 3 kids, they really depend on me to be stable and reliable. I have built my career on efficiency and speed. By doing this, my typical work day was maybe an hour of work and the rest coming up with random projects to get even further ahead. I figured there had to be a better way, a more fulfilling way. One day I saw that fear and decided to accept it as a challenge. From that moment, I switched to being a freelance designer. I figured with my discipline, work ethic and accountability that I had shown over the course of the first 10 years working for other people that they could, and would, trust me to work from my own home office. When I made that switch, and others had heard about it, I was receiving calls, texts and emails from previous employers who were wanting me to design for them on a freelance basis. It's been over 2 years now being in the freelance side of things and I still have the same clients today as I did on day one as well as some others and those random one-time projects that come and go when they need me.
Now I know freelance doesn't have the best reputation from other designers and their employers work history with them. I would like to assure you that's not my reputation, history or future. Each of my clients would gladly express their experience working with me, if needed. Though I do feel I have the experience, knowledge and skillset needed for this industry, it is my discipline, work ethic and accountability that people have come to rely on. I am always available for a call, a text, an email to work on any project. Day or night, weekend or holiday. Being able to work from home where I can let my creative side be comfortable inside the studio I have set up, is the trade off I make with current and future employers by being willing to go above and beyond what is expected of me. I work great with a team as well as by myself. I've done both and everything in between. I always adjust to best fit your needs and work flow to make it an easy and enjoyable experience for all.
I have recently moved back to Texas from living in Utah for the last 17 years. (It's been great so far!) I am just outside of Dallas in Frisco. I am able to meet in your office and work from your office on occasion, when needed. I have my own equipment (Macbook Pro, 2 Thunderbolt Monitors, Wacom Tablets, Canon 6D Mark II, Studio Lighting, DJI Mavic Drone, External Hard Drives, Photography & Videography Equipment, Adobe Creative Suite, Stock Photo Subscriptions, Business Class Internet Speed (1 Gb), 4x4 Truck for the hard to reach photo-shoot locations and I have my own Health Insurance).
If you've made it this far in this way too long bio about myself, thank you. I would love to speak with you about your design and/or photography needs. Please reach out and let's see what we can do together.
